Nickelback Releases A STRANGE Music Video Remake Of 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' In Honor Of Charlie Daniels

Source - For a reason that can only be described as “It’s 2020,” Nickelback have released a cover of the Charlie Daniels Band’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Ostensibly a tribute to Daniels, who died in July, everyone’s favorite (sic) Canadian rock band strips the fiddle from both the song and its narrative, transforming the protagonist Johnny from a country-bumpkin fiddle phenom into a dive-bar guitar shredder.

Daniels, as Johnny, notoriously called the devil a “son of a b–h” in the 1979 original, which he later cleaned up for radio play by changing it to “son of a gun.”

Here, Nickelback keep the O.G. swear word, but up the ante with a “f–k” too. “Sit your old ass in that chair right there, and let me show you how the f–k it’s done!” Johnny Kroeger barks at the devil. As if Lucifer’s never heard that one before.

In the end, Johnny triumphs over the devil, winning a “guitar of gold” and saving his soul.

The Video:

I'm not sure what I just watched/listened to, but I'm glad the animator from Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny has finally found some work. I mean look at these drawings!

They're incredible. The devil is rad and Chad Kroeger's character is, well, Chad Kroeger…

Just when you think Nickelback has faded into oblivion they blow our minds by taking their craft to the next level. Who would've thought to recreate The Devil Went Down To Georgia in 2020? With everything going on in the world? No one, that's who. No one other than Nickelback. Well done, boys. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Take it away Chad…
